in my head

I'm not really creative the past months. In my head
there are lots of things waiting to get out. Two of them
are bugging me along my way to work yesterday -
painting portraits and a song.

in my head

I used to draw a lot of portraits. I'm out of practice.
I got some problems with the proportions and distance.
The noses look weird and even the eyes - which I always
loved to draw - don't seem right (so I don't dare to draw
ears - they were my weakness!). The pose of the girl on
the right pic was inspired by a passanger, who was
watching our window display.

Can you guess what it is on the bottom pic?

It is the Indonesian music notation. A quick way to
write down a melody since I don't have to care either
it's in C-dur or F-dur or whatever. I long to compose
a song for an ensemble, but I never manage to do it.
Sometimes I have a melody in my head, but it's gone
before I find the first note on the keyboard. Yesterday
I decided to write it down that way - at least I could
capture the base melody and some other parts.

We'll see, either it'll be a Midnight Blues - the one in
glass
is already in my shop ;)

sweden

I was talking about our favorite jazz singers and bands
with an old friend lately after the last gig, when we
suddenly noticed, many of them come from the Northern
part of Europe. Koop is a group from Sweden that I
really, really love (you might have seen on the right
bar, I've been listening to their music again this week).

This morning I was 'googling' for typography for my
felt work (which I could hopefully show you soon ;)),
when I stumbled upon the work of Thomas Broomé,
also from Sweden. I love esp. his Modern Mantra
series, not only because I love typography in general,
but because I've always been exploring the use of
typography in pictures.

Two doodles I made at work last Monday.

On Etsy, of course, there are also sellers from Sweden.
I looked up only for Stockholm, but there could/must
be more. Some of my fave list...

some faves from sweden

t.t.t.

Two things I love today..

t.t.t.
left: a ring, that is big enough at least to be worn on
my forefinger. Shall I keep it or shall I list it? Hmm..
right: a stack of fabric I've bought this summer. All
cotton or wool, except for the flowery one. I normally
don't like poly fabric, but it looks so gorgeous, that I
couldn't resist. They were all marked down, either rest
pieces or sorted out. Hope, I have enough courage to
sew myself something this winter.

Talking about winter.. is it also suddenly winter where
you are? It's kind of crazy to have 7°C just after 17°C
about two weeks ago.. (or was it three weeks ago? Time
flies too fast, that I cannot keep up!)

from his view :)
Anyway.. three weeks ago my son told and showed me,
how one of his friends always draws himself. I then asked
him, how he would draw himself, and also, how he would
draw me. These are the results. I was looking quite grim,
eh? And he said, my glasses are because I'm sitting too
much in front of my computer *nudge, nudge* LOL

Look at those shadows of the Calamondin (which is blooming
at the moment and those flowers have one of the best
scent!). Oh, how I love autumn...

thank you!!

I've promised myself to surprise two hearters
of my shop, if it reached 1000 hearts. And it
happened today! Maybe it's kind of droll, but
my heart is on each piece, that's in my shop.
That's why it makes me really happy, to know,
that people like my shop. Thank you so much
for encouraging me!!!

So, I've just let a randomizer pick me 2 numbers
in 2 steps 1-500 and 501-1000 (it seems to me,
that it picks two quite narrow numbers otherwise):
18 and 647. And then I've browsed my hearts
using Juln's Heartomatic to find out the hearters:
#18: sockdogs
#647: bebesniklefritz
I'll send out convos, since I will send them a
surprise each :)

holiday is coming - part two

I've called for a drawing a few days ago,
which ended last night.
Thanks, all, for your participations!
I love reading your comments.

Most of you make your own cards
for the holiday season - that's great!
I've only made my own cards twice
(after I've moved to Germany).
One was a digital drawing I've sent via emails
(which is on my crashed old PC *cry*),
and the other one was with a photo
of my baby boy in Santa look :-)
I guess, I have to make another one next year ;-)

I've finished the drawing this afternoon.
I've put down each commentator's name
on a piece of paper, folded and mixed them.
My son has helped me to draw a name
(he was excited to do this -
a break from his oh so boring homework :-)).

Congratulations, Erna!! Please send me
your address via convo or my gmail account,
so that I can send you the card
and the glassy surprise soon :-)

BTW.. ArtMind has introduced me
to saplingpress' lovely work. Thank you!!
I love this one and I will definitely need
the note pad and tons of these cards!!
I've found this beautiful cards recently.
made by starparticle.

ArtMind herself has beautiful cards in her shop.
I will shop there, as soon as I know,
whether my friend get a baby boy or girl :-)
She's having sales on her scratch your wish cards
for New Year right now - go get them!!

holiday is coming

As I was a child, I was always thrilled
to get UNICEF cards from my father's secretary.
I didn't know, where to get them in Indonesia.
So I was really happy
to found an active UNICEF team in town,
as I moved to Constance.
I've joined them and been active for about 4 years,
'till I haven't enough time to attend the meetings.
Now I only help them out on the yearly Christmas sales.
But it's always fun, since I'm still in love with the cards.

This year however I've decided to buy handmade cards.
I've signed the handmade pledge, remember? ;-)
No, that's not the only reason actually.
I love letterpress. It's such a beautiful art.
On Etsy I've found so many people
selling letterpress items. My love grows :-)
I love especially the cards made by port2portpress.
They're so delicate.

Pine Holiday Cards by port2portpress

I want to share my love to letterpress with you.
Everybody who leave a comment to this post
till Dec 10th, 2007, will take part in the drawing.
One winner will get one of these pine cards
and a glassy surprise from me.
So, simply click and say hi :o)
