sweden

I was talking about our favorite jazz singers and bands
with an old friend lately after the last gig, when we
suddenly noticed, many of them come from the Northern
part of Europe. Koop is a group from Sweden that I
really, really love (you might have seen on the right
bar, I've been listening to their music again this week).

This morning I was 'googling' for typography for my
felt work (which I could hopefully show you soon ;)),
when I stumbled upon the work of Thomas Broomé,
also from Sweden. I love esp. his Modern Mantra
series, not only because I love typography in general,
but because I've always been exploring the use of
typography in pictures.

typo doodles
Two doodles I made at work last Monday.

On Etsy, of course, there are also sellers from Sweden.
I looked up only for Stockholm, but there could/must
be more. Some of my fave list...

some faves from sweden
ExoticFlavour, cristinapires, aCatsNest,
kannor, suzzieholler, birribe,
Couturetime, Saltsyrup, percerosso,
Myling, Antracitproduction, britou

lazy sunday

I'm spending a lazy Sunday and hearing one of my fave
singers Joan Armatrading. I often hear her older CD at
work. I love her deep voice.

This song reminds me also on my other fave artist
Sarah Jane Morris. I so wish, I'd be able to hear her
singing live one day.

I've heard her for the first time in the BBC produced
film Summer In The Suburbs. The film itself is not the
best, but I always watched it, just to hear the music,
which is written by John Harle. I love his music!

Hmmm... this made me wanna watch a British film
now :)

little cotton rabbits

If you are a knitter and you adore Julie's rabbits like
me, she's having a give-away of her new pattern for a
knitted egg cozy. Hurry up, left a comment on her post
- it's only a few hours left before it's morning in the UK
(the only reason, why I don't do it, is just because I've
been already so lucky for so many times in blogs and
I don't have time to knit at the moment, so it's your
turn! :)).

BTW Julie has a new shop for her knitted creations on
Etsy, which will also be updated with egg cozies soon.
In her old shop you can buy patterns, starting this
afternoon also those of the egg cozies.

P.S. Playing for Change is touring in Austin, Los Angeles,
San Francisco, Seattle and New York next week starting
tomorrow. Look for the dates on their site.

bed time story

No, it's not really.. ;)

I only decided to go to bed instead of folding, as I suddenly
remember the author's name of the beautiful book I saw in
the book store today. It was illustrated in B/W in boxes like
comics, but without any single words. It is The Arrival by
Shaun Tan. So, I just browsed through his website. I love
what he has written about originality and creativity.
His style on the book reminds me somehow of one of my fave
artists Quint Buchholz (oh, that I still need to frame his print!).

Shaun Tan is currently working on the animation film of his
book The Lost Thing. Here's an interview with him, produced
by inframe.tv (make sure, you look around on this Australian
based site too - it's full of interesting vodcasts!). I hope, the
film will be shown in German theaters too, once it's finished.

So, good night for now! Wishing you a sweet dream. Maybe
about some penguins watching opera, like in this book ^_^

Some Folk Think the South Pole's Hot.

good mood

I feel so good today. Waking up freshly and
now I'm listening to my new CD (I'm one of
those dinosaurs, who still buy CDs ;)) I've
bought yesterday: Yael Naim, as I love her
songs so much. She sang many songs in
Hebrew and I love to hear language I don't
understand. It's simply a lovely CD, which
brings me a light sentimental, but good mood.

good mood

While listening, I started to update the EST
shop catalog. There I can always see the newest
items of EST sellers. One of them, who regularly
make new items is Kreativlink. She makes
beautiful journals and other accesories of leather.
I've bought an Aphorism from her. It combines all
elements I loved in her different journals. Right
now I'm still afraid to write anything in it, that
I'll ruin it - although I have already 2 aphorisms
in my mind, which I want to put it in there. But
I will do it one day! :)

(These items are in my favorite list, so they will be
set
inactive, once I've put new fave items into my list)

Kreativlink sells very well, so if you like something
in her shop, don't waver a second or you'll lose it!
I've seen this one in her gallery on Flickr and
felt directly in love, but as I've thought over a night
on it, it was of course already sold the next morning.

Why I wavered? My brother will get marry
at the end of the year and he lives in Australia.
The second reason is I want to buy me an
overlock machine one day :)
Well, now I better start to torch to make money ;)

just books?

I was seldom SO fascinated by anything, like I was
as I browsed through decklededgebindery's shop.
It is rather an inconspicuous shop at first glace,
but as I looked closer into the items, I am
really impressed!!

Urban landscapes, Paris, Pyramid In Pink and
Dragonfly are some of my favorites - they are
definitely NOT just books! And look at the fish,
she has made for the Etsy action!

me and bags

I have a weird relationship to bags.
It has started with love at an early age.
On the age of seven I've made a small suit case
using cardboard and glue. I still remember,
how proud I was of the closure.
As I had my first Singapore trip without
my parents at age 14, one of the thing
I've bought there was of course a bag
(a soft, white one, which I had to clean
every second days - but it was chic *lol*).

I'm not sure, where this love came from.
Bags was of course important to me at school
and I had many different bags during that time.
Bags in the definition "used to carry items",
as I remember to wrap a belt around the books.
I really loved that one - looked so cool!!
But I also remember, accompanying my mom
shopping for bags - bags with lots of
divisions inside! She might be the bag lover,
who has got me into it :-)

Now I rarely use bags. I often go out
only with a wallet in my jeans' pocket.
If I have to take something with me,
I prefer a backpack, as it's more practical.
But if I look around, I have more bags
than pair of shoes!! I enjoy looking at bags
more than shopping for shoes or clothes.

my newest bag
This bag is my newest. Isn't it great?! I love it!
Do you want one? Check out Ira Grant's shop!
She has this style in 2 yummy colors right now
(and of course other beautiful bags) -
go get them before someone else do it :)

Can you imagine me carrying these two?
The colors would fit my outfit too ;)
